If you're driving on the highway in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, or Thuringia, you can save a noticeable amount of money on gas by taking a short detour. According to a nationwide analysis by the ADAC, the price difference between highway and local gas stations in Saxony averaged 36 cents per liter for Super E10 and 37 cents for diesel. In Thuringia, the difference was 24 cents for Super E10 and 23 cents for diesel; in Saxony-Anhalt, it was 23 cents for both.
Nationwide, Super E10 and diesel at highway gas stations cost an average of 33 cents per liter more than at gas stations off the highway. For a 50-liter fill-up, that adds up to 16.50 euros. The ADAC therefore recommends leaving the highway whenever possible to refuel and heading to a nearby gas station.
