Saxony wants to learn from South Korea how to address an aging population and the shortage of skilled workers in the healthcare sector through digitalization and modern technology. Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) is in the South Korean capital of Seoul until Friday with representatives from the healthcare, long-term care, and political sectors.
A model for Saxony?
“Our goal is to gain insights into the South Korean healthcare system and identify approaches that are highly likely to be transferable to the Free State of Saxony,” said Köpping. In the coming years, the proportion of people over 65 in Saxony will continue to rise. At the same time, the shortage of skilled workers remains a challenge.
South Korea faces similar problems and is relying, among other things, on a high degree of digitization and modern technology in the healthcare sector. The delegation therefore intends to examine which solutions might also be of interest to Saxony.
