DFB Federal Court Postpones Decision on Dresden Riots

Sports Court Sought Partial Ban on Dynamo Fans

The DFB Sports Court had announced its ruling on the incidents on June 5. It fined Hertha BSC 152,000 euros, while Dynamo must pay 91,200 euros. In addition, some fans will be barred from attending Dynamo’s next two home games. However, the ban for the second match has been suspended, pending review, until summer 2027. Furthermore, both teams must develop a joint security plan for upcoming matches and reduce the number of visiting fans allowed.

Dresden viewed the partial ban on spectators as a collective punishment. “We are now examining to what extent further evidence can be incorporated into the next phase of the proceedings. Our fundamental conviction that the arguments and perspectives should be heard—and that they can have a significant influence on the ruling—remains unchanged,” said Dynamo Managing Director Stephan Zimmermann in a club statement following the session of the DFB Federal Court.

During Hertha’s 1-0 victory in Dresden, there was, among other things, a massive use of pyrotechnics and riots in the stands. The police had to intervene, and the game was suspended for 19 minutes. At least 17 people were injured.
