No improvement in sight: The Elbe River in Saxony continues to carry low water levels. In Dresden, the water level stood at 56 centimeters in the early afternoon, according to data from the State Flood Center. That is just under one meter below average.
According to the forecast, the level is expected to drop temporarily to 51 centimeters overnight into Thursday, before rising slightly to up to 59 centimeters by Friday.
Sightseeing steamers in Dresden operating on only one route
The low water level is affecting boat traffic. The Weiße Flotte’s sightseeing steamers are currently operating only for city tours in Dresden and special trips; scheduled routes to Saxon Switzerland or toward Meissen have been suspended. Cargo ships are not expected to resume operations until September.
The Elbe also continues to experience low water levels. However, it is not the water level itself that is decisive, but rather how much water flows through the measuring stations. In Dresden, values of less than 109 cubic meters per second are considered low water. Currently, the figure is about 87.
