The new cross-border hiking route between Bohemian Switzerland and Saxon Switzerland near Bad Schandau (district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains) is to be officially opened in April next year. According to a statement from the Saxon Switzerland National Park and Forestry Administration, a few muddy areas still need to be fixed before then. But the markings are ready - and the eight-kilometre trail can already be walked.
According to the information, the new route above the Bad Schandau district of Schmilka is the fifth cross-border hiking trail between the two national parks. The route connects the "Path to Wilderness" adventure trail in the Saxon national park with the "Phoenix" viewing platform near Mezná in the Czech Republic. Among other things, it leads through the area affected by the 2022 forest fire on the Czech side and through beech and birch stands on the Great Winter Mountain in Saxony.
