What to do in the face of high fuel prices? CDU and SPD in the federal government argue. The Saxon CDU/CSU is determined.

The CDU/CSU in Saxony is backing Economics Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) in the federal coalition dispute over high fuel prices. The federal government must now act as one, explained General Secretary Tom Unger. The SPD's proposals for relief are short-term, economically risky and not very effective.

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Reiche had sharply attacked SPD Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil the day before. The coalition partner had recently attracted attention by "submitting proposals that are expensive, ineffective and constitutionally questionable", Reiche had explained.

Klingbeil had proposed a mobility bonus or a temporary reduction in the energy tax. This should be financed by an excess profit tax for energy companies. Reiche, on the other hand, advocated a temporary increase in the commuter allowance.

The CDU in Saxony is in favor of suspending CO2 pricing, tax relief and targeted support for energy-intensive companies. There should be no more arguing, delivery is needed, explained Unger.
