More users, more vehicles and new locations: the car-sharing provider Teilauto continues to expand its range. At the same time, the industry is facing rising costs.

The car sharing service from Teilauto is being used more frequently. At the end of 2025, the company had around 102,500 customers in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, according to the Leipzig-based company. This corresponds to an increase of 16.5 percent compared to the previous year.

At the beginning of the year, around 2,200 vehicles were available at a good 1,010 stations. The fleet has also grown - by around seven percent. According to the German Carsharing Association, the number of carsharing users also increased nationwide, reaching around 978,000.

Leipzig largest location

The company's largest location is Leipzig. Around 48,700 people use the vehicles there - an increase of around 15 percent. Around 960 cars are available at around 280 stations in the city, as well as additional vehicles in the free-floating "Cityflitzer" service.

Dresden also saw significant growth in demand. There, Teilauto has around 28,000 users and around 640 vehicles. In Chemnitz, around 2,300 people use the service.

In Saxony-Anhalt, Halle is the largest location with around 5,500 users, followed by Magdeburg with around 2,600. In Thuringia, Erfurt leads the statistics with around 5,600 and Jena with around 5,000 users.

Sector growing - costs rising

According to the industry association, the number of people authorized to drive in station-based car sharing grew by around twelve percent nationwide. "The rising number of authorized drivers in station-based and combined car sharing shows that More and more people in Germany want to use car sharing," said Managing Director Gunnar Nehrke. At the same time, higher costs for vehicles, insurance and workshops, for example, are slowing down the expansion of fleets.

Recently, Teilauto also reacted to rising costs and announced that it would be increasing the price per kilometer for journeys. From April 20, users will pay three to four cents more per kilometer, depending on the type of vehicle. The company spoke of a price increase "on sight". It is monitoring further developments.
