Due to the City Biathlon, several streets along the banks of the Elbe in Dresden will be closed starting Saturday morning. Anyone traveling through the Old Town should be aware of the main routes and detours.

Dresden. Biathlon is usually a winter sport, but in Dresden it takes place on Sunday in the middle of late summer. The City Biathlon brings roller skis and a shooting range to the heart of the city, and as a result, several areas along the banks of the Elbe will be closed off all weekend. From 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, Terrassenufer, Devrientstraße, Ostra-Ufer, Weißeritzstraße, and Pieschener Allee will be closed. In addition, the Elbe Bike Path on the Old Town side between Flügelweg Bridge and Akademiestraße will be closed; a detour is signposted.

Semperoper Remains Accessible

Access to the Semperoper and its underground parking garage is still possible via Ostra-Allee and the street Am Zwingerteich. Anyone traveling in the area is advised to give the area a wide berth, switch to buses and trains, or allow for a little extra time. Current traffic information is available at www.dresden.de/verkehrsbehinderungen.

From Heinz-Steyer Stadium to Theaterplatz

It’s already the third City Biathlon in Dresden. The route runs from the Heinz-Steyer Stadium to Theaterplatz and back to the stadium, where the shooting range is located. To ensure the races and shooting events run safely, the streets along the course will remain clear throughout the weekend. Spectators will find good viewing spots along the banks of the Elbe and at Theaterplatz. For more information about the event, visit www.city-biathlon.com.
