In the shadow of the big cities, right-wing motivated violence is growing in Saxony: neo-Nazis are gaining more and more young supporters. What this means for those affected and the social climate in Saxony.

The number of right-wing motivated attacks in Saxony decreased slightly last year, according to figures from victim counseling centers. In contrast, more people were affected by such attacks, according to the RAA Saxony association. Accordingly, 292 attacks were registered in the previous year, compared to 328 in 2024. The number of people affected rose by 10 to 456. More than half of the attacks (53%) involved bodily harm, while 119 cases involved coercion and threats.

Younger perpetrators and a higher propensity for violence

It is noticeable that the perpetrators are getting younger and younger, it said. The victim advice centers warned above all about the successful recruitment of very young followers in some cases and the high propensity for violence that they see among these groups, said managing director Andrea Hübler. A reorganization of right-wing groups has been registered for around three years.

The RAA Saxony statistics also include cases that are not reported to the police - for example because the victims fear discriminatory treatment by the authorities. At least 235 of the attacks recorded by the advice centers in the previous year were known to the police, while 33 cases were not reported.

Bautzen district with significant increase in right-wing attacks

According to the figures, the most frequent attacks in 2025 were in the major cities of Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz; the fewest were recorded in the Vogtland, the district of Mittelsachen and the Erzgebirge. As a proportion of the total population, Chemnitz and the districts of Leipzig and Bautzen were the main regions. In the latter, the number of attacks even increased by 62 percent compared to 2024. The presence of young neo-Nazis, which is repeatedly accompanied by threats, intimidation and violence, is too often trivialized here, said Hübler.

Racism and other ideologies of inequality are becoming more and more normalized and have a direct impact on those affected. "In order to counter this dangerous development with the values of an open society, it is essential that we continue to have an active democratic civil society that educates, advises, is involved locally, joins forces and stands up with commitment, creativity and empathy."
