"The Czech side is waiting," says Saxony's head of government and calls for progress on rail expansion. When it comes to the relief package, he criticizes the economic policy of the federal government.

At an external cabinet meeting in Berlin, Saxony's state government increased the pressure for the state's central interests. Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) called for more speed in the expansion of important rail projects in Saxony and for connections to Poland and the Czech Republic - particularly with regard to the planned high-speed train connection to Prague.

"The Czech side is waiting. There is a state treaty that has been negotiated and there is a great lack of understanding that this is not progressing," said Saxony's head of government. Other important projects include the electrification of the Dresden-Görlitz railroad line and the expansion of the Chemnitz-Leipzig line. These projects are of central importance for Saxony as a business location and for the connection to Eastern Europe.

Saxony wants a departure center at Leipzig/Halle Airport

When it comes to migration, Saxony is advocating a federally operated federal departure center at Leipzig/Halle Airport. According to a statement from the state chancellery, the repatriation of migrants who are required to leave the country - in particular criminals and people from countries of origin where "repatriation has been particularly problematic to date" - should be organized more quickly and effectively.

The immediate proximity to the airport should enable the federal government to plan and carry out deportations independently. The airport is already regularly used for deportation flights for people who have committed crimes and are obliged to leave the country - for example to Afghanistan and Georgia.

Kretschmer renewed his criticism of the relief package adopted by the federal government and launched into a fundamental critique of the black-red economic policy in the federal government: "We are trapped in an economic war and we must free ourselves from it." "Substantial reforms" are needed to restore Germany's competitiveness. It is not about "cramming together sums to plug holes", but about making energy affordable again as a "scarce, expensive commodity", reviewing taxes and levies and correcting wrong decisions made by previous governments, for example in agriculture, air traffic and industrial production. The aim must be to create production conditions that are "almost as good as in the countries that are our biggest competitors", said Kretschmer, referring to Poland and Turkey, among others.
