Leipzig will once again be represented on the international swimming stage this year: With strong performances in the 200m freestyle, Timo Sorgius from SSG Leipzig has secured himself a place in the German 4x200m relay team at the 2025 World Swimming Championships.

On Monday, the 21-year-old was officially named to the team by the German Swimming Federation for the world championships taking place in Singapore from July 11 to August 3. A total of 23 athletes will be competing for Germany in the pool events at the World Swimming Championships.

In recent years Sorgius, who has been training in Switzerland since the end of last year but continues to compete for SSG Leipzig, has become a permanent fixture in the German national team. In the qualification period for the World Swimming Championships, he was the number two in the 4x200m relay behind Olympic champion Lukas Märtens. With the German quartet, Sorgius reached the final at both the 2023 World Championships and the 2024 Olympic Games. At the 2024 World Short Course Championships, the German relay team even wobbled off the podium in fourth place.
