The second copper beech tree at the entrance to Pillnitz Castle Park must also be felled. According to Schlösserland Sachsen, a tree survey has confirmed a high risk of breakage. Initially, all crown branches were removed to ensure road safety for visitors to the park. The complete felling will follow in the coming months after consultation with the authorities.
Until 2021, two huge copper beeches at the north-western entrance to the park had attracted the attention of visitors. The majestic trees were planted in 1895 and dominated one side of the pleasure garden between the Bergpalais and Wasserpalais. One of the beech trees had not survived the drought summers in the early 2020s and had to be felled in 2021. Its torso was transformed into an art object and has since served as a memorial to the consequences of climate change.
