Whether as a milk substitute or as flakes in muesli: oats have been a trend product for several years. And Saxony's farmers are ensuring supplies.

Saxony's farmers are increasingly relying on oats. Wheat and barley dominate the cereal crops in the fields here. However, the cultivation of oats has roughly doubled over the past ten years, according to figures from the State Statistical Office. This year, it is being grown on around 17,600 hectares, compared to just under 8,400 hectares in 2016. The state farmers' association confirms this trend. Oats are a lifestyle product, its expert for arable and crop farming, Andreas Jahnel, told the German Press Agency.
