Center Parcs Plans a Large Vacation Resort in the Lusatian Lake District

The Center Parcs vacation park chain is considering building a large vacation park in the Lusatian Lake District. The project on the Brandenburg side is expected to include 500 to 700 vacation homes on an area of approximately 90 hectares between Lake Sedlitz and Lake Partwitz, Center Parcs announced. A water park is also planned. A total investment of approximately 300 million euros is planned.

The year-round offerings are to be supplemented by restaurants, recreational, and sports facilities and will be geared toward families. From Center Parcs’ perspective, the Lake District offers great tourism potential thanks to its combination of water, nature, and recreational activities. The design of the project will depend on the results of several studies and assessments, which are expected to take about a year and a half.

Brandenburg’s Minister of Economic Affairs: “Great Appeal”

Minister of Economic Affairs Martina Klement (CSU) called it “great news for Brandenburg”—for tourism and the economy in Lusatia and beyond. “The planned Center Parcs vacation park is one of the largest tourism development projects in the state of Brandenburg, which has the potential to generate significant appeal for the entire region,” she said.

“With its planned bed capacity, the new vacation park has the potential to double the total number of overnight stays in the Lusatian Lake District—and that even throughout the entire year.” The minister expects the park to have a noticeable economic impact on the region and the entire state. Frank Daemen, Managing Director of Center Parcs Germany, said: “We see great potential in the region.” Several media outlets had previously reported on the plans.

Lusatian Lake Network Opens

Europe’s largest man-made lake network was opened just this past June in the Lusatia region of Brandenburg and Saxony. The lakes, which were created from flooded former open-pit mining pits, are intended to boost tourism. The Senftenberger See family park already offers numerous vacation homes and apartments as well as camping sites.

The vacation park chain announced its plans on Monday at the general assembly of the Lausitzer Seenland Brandenburg Special-Purpose Association in Senftenberg. Center Parcs Europe is a subsidiary of Groupe Pierre & Vacances Center Parcs, which, according to its own statements, is Europe’s largest provider of vacation apartments. This includes Center Parcs and Sunparks.
