The Norwegian Norbye was recently rewarded with a professional contract in Leipzig. Now he is to gain match practice with a second division club.

RB Leipzig defender Jonathan Norbye will be loaned out to second-division soccer club Arminia Bielefeld for the coming season. This was announced by the Saxon first division club. The 18-year-old Norwegian was most recently captain of Leipzig's U19 team. "Jonny has made great progress with us over the last two years. Now it's important that he gets playing time with the pros so that he can take the next steps," said RB sporting director Marcel Schäfer.

The 1.94-metre central defender Norbye came to Leipzig from Alta IF in Norway in 2023 and played 45 games for the U17s and U19s. On the final matchday of the 2023/2024 season, he earned his first Bundesliga minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 2:2 draw in Frankfurt and was subsequently included in the first-team squad several times. In April 2025, he signed his first professional contract with RB until 2028.
