Bundesliga newcomer Schalke 04 won its second preseason friendly against FC Erzgebirge Aue. The Royal Blues prevailed 4-2 (2-0) in a lively match. Moussa Sylla (28', 45'+1) scored before halftime, and Christian Gomis (51') and Bryan Lasme (54') added to the lead. But then Aue found their rhythm and scored two goals through Marcel Bär (61') and Chadi Ramadan (71'). For Schalke, Lasme (50') saw his penalty kick saved by Aue goalkeeper Max Uhlig.
On their way to training camp in Neustift in the Stubai Valley, Schalke stopped to play the Saxons, who wrapped up their preparations for the new Regionalliga season with this match. Coach Khvicha Shubitidze’s squad—which has been almost completely overhauled following their relegation from the third division—will face the self-proclaimed promotion favorites, VSG Altglienicke, in their very first match.
Robin Gosens, who was loaned from AC Florence on Thursday, was not yet part of Schalke’s matchday roster but will travel with the team to training camp. There, the coaching staff led by Miron Muslic will have their work cut out for them, as the second string still isn’t up to par. The team—which was completely new in the second half—revealed major problems with teamwork and spatial organization.
