Leipzig botches the start to the new year. There is no discussion about a coach. Marco Rose is to keep the reins in his home city for as long as possible.

RB Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schäfer would like to continue working with Marco Rose as head coach for a very long time. "That would be our wish, absolutely. We want consistency on the coaching bench and would ideally like to work with Marco Rose for years," said Schäfer on Sky TV. But we also know that we have to keep the club's goals in mind and fulfill them.

Rose was criticized last autumn, but the management of the Bundesliga club from Saxony and the team backed the Leipzig native. "We managed that well in the fall. If you are convinced, you stick together and develop a kind of wagon-castle mentality," added Schäfer.

The start to the new year failed, however, with a 2-1 draw against Stuttgart and a 3-3 draw against bottom-placed Bochum despite leading 3-0. "We also process a game like yesterday in order to draw the right conclusions from it and then show an answer," said Schäfer.

New RB transfers only if they make sense

After the failed loan of Noah Okafor from AC Milan, the Saxons are still looking for reinforcements. But only if there is "a win-win situation, both in sporting and economic terms, will we do something. Otherwise, we will concentrate on the summer," said Schäfer.

Okafor is very talented and would have "suited RB well". But the 24-year-old would not have been available to the Rose team immediately. "The short-term nature was not given, therefore no transfer," explained Schäfer.
