Energy prices, investments, better flight connections: What the East German heads of government want to discuss in Berlin. And who else is taking part in the meeting.

The heads of government of the eastern German states will meet on Wednesday (17:00) for a two-day conference in Berlin. Their agenda includes the rise in energy prices as a result of the Iran war and the security of energy supply.

They also want to discuss the funds for the federal states from the federal government's billion-euro special fund for investments. As at previous meetings, the demand for more long-haul connections at the capital's BER airport is once again on the agenda.

The meeting will kick off in the early evening with a joint visit to the Humboldt Forum in Berlin. The discussions will then continue on Thursday in the Rotes Rathaus. Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche (both CDU) will then join them.

The state of Berlin, with Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU), took over the chairmanship of the Minister Presidents' Conference East (MPK-Ost) from Thuringia on December 1, 2025.
