The bridge park project between Görlitz and the neighboring Polish town of Zgorzelec is entering its second phase. 3.6 million euros from the Interreg program are available to reconstruct and redesign further green spaces on both sides of the Neisse. According to the Görlitz city administration, the partnership agreement for the cross-border project is to be signed this Tuesday (June 10) - at the annual joint city council meeting.
For the bridge park on the German side, parts of the city park and the bank at the Görlitz town hall, among other things, were upgraded in the first phase, it was said. The cross-border green link includes both historical park areas and newly created public open spaces along the river. The project is now to be continued in a southerly direction between Obermühle and Weinberg.
Joint council meeting of Görlitz and Zgorzelec
The city councils of Görlitz and Zgorzelec have held a joint meeting once a year since 1991. The meeting takes place alternately on the German and Polish side, this year in the cultural center of Zgorzelec. The agenda also includes a report on the plan to supply the neighboring towns with climate-neutral district heating by 2030. A key challenge here is the development of a cross-border technical infrastructure.
