The Leipzig New Lake District leisure and tourism area has a number of new features for tourists in the 2025 season. The Markkleeberg climbing park has reopened, as Frank Dietze from the Leipzig Region Tourism Association announced. It had been dismantled since 2023 because the wooden elements were worn out. Children from the age of six can now climb on three levels with different degrees of difficulty.
For cyclists, the junction system in southern Neuseenland has been extended to Borna, which should make orientation easier. Anyone staying overnight in a hotel in Großpösna and Markkleeberg, for example, has also had to pay an accommodation tax since this year (five percent of the overnight price). In addition, the topping-out ceremony for the new youth hostel on Lake Markkleeberg with 150 beds has already been celebrated - although the new opening is not planned until spring 2026.
Leipzig Neuseenland is a lake district around Leipzig that has been developed into a leisure and tourism area from former open-cast lignite mines.
