Thousands of households were affected by a power outage lasting several hours in Plauen and the surrounding area on Wednesday afternoon. From around 3.30 pm, around 6,000 customers had no electricity, according to a spokeswoman for the grid operator Mitnetz Strom. The city of Plauen spoke of around 6,200 households. Gradually, most households were reconnected to the grid.
About three hours after the power outage began, 130 connections were still without power, according to the city, but should be reconnected by around 9 p.m., according to the grid operator. Mitnetz Strom suspected a cable fault as the cause of the power outage. A small crisis team had met in the town of Plauen in the meantime, but was disbanded again.
