In its fourth edition, the Lusatia Festival is feeling an unprecedented response. At the halfway point, the festival in southern Brandenburg and eastern Saxony reported many sold-out and well-attended events. "We are very pleased that we have succeeded in the first half of the festival to fill the
day and partly parallel events in Lusatia so - with an average occupancy of 80 percent," said managing director Maria Schulz Tuesday on request. The fact that a reading on a Sunday evening in Görlitz is completely booked out, had surprised even the visitors.
Still until September 10, a total of 400 artists can be experienced at 13 locations throughout Lusatia. The bandwidth ranges from concert, theater, dance and jazz to literature, film and exhibitions. Unusual venues such as the hangar of the former military airfield in Cottbus and the production hall of a former glass factory in Weißwasser will also serve as stages. With nine sold-out performances so far, this year's Lusatia Festival is already considered the edition with the most visitors at the halfway point, according to reports.
"The Lusatia Festival is always concerned with change and transformations, that is, with the process of creating new worlds that must emerge in place of other worlds. Creating is a complex and mysterious process that can be stimulating and hopeful, but also dangerous. That's what we face," explained artistic director Daniel Kühnel.
The second part of the festival includes the world premiere of the dance production "Glacier." Composer Haggai Cohen-Milo and choreographer Margaux Marielle Tréhoüart developed it especially for the monumental Danner Hall at the Telux site in Weißwasser. The chamber opera "Julie" by Philippe Boesmans will be staged by Anna Bergmann. With the Portuguese Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos, a big band will perform for the first time at the Lausitz Festival. For the finale on September 10 in the baroque village church of Cunewalde (Bautzen district), violinist Maxim Vengerov will play in a duo with Polina Osetinskaya (piano).
