Bad Schandau can now officially call itself a Kneipp spa. The state recognition as a Kneipp spa is expected to attract additional guests to the region.

Bad Schandau in Saxon Switzerland can now call itself a Kneipp spa. With this state recognition, the town on the River Elbe has "a unique selling point for tourism that will attract additional guests to the region", said Tourism Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU) in a statement on Friday. As a result, the healing method according to the pastor Sebastian Kneipp (1821-1897) with its five pillars of exercise, nutrition, water, balance and plants "will continue to be recognized and used in our often hectic times".

According to the ministry, the award, which is subject to strict conditions, is an upgrade to Bad Schandau's state recognition as a Kneipp health resort in 2010. Kneipp is practiced there by the local Kneipp association and in a Kneipp daycare centre, among others. In addition, there is the "unique nature of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains" as well as terrain spa trails and many wellness hotels.
