4.8 million euros for the Central German Cancer Center

The Central German Cancer Center, with locations in Leipzig and Jena, has once again received funding as a leading oncology center. Following an evaluation by a panel of experts, German Cancer Aid will provide 4.8 million euros over the next four years, according to a statement from Jena University Hospital.

The two cancer centers at the university hospitals in Leipzig and Jena have joined forces to form this center. Since 2023, it has been funded by German Cancer Aid as one of 14 leading centers currently operating nationwide.

Collaboration with over 140 partners

“The fact that we will continue to receive funding as a leading oncology center in the coming years is the highest recognition of our work,” said Florian Lordick, director of the University Cancer Center at Leipzig University Hospital and chairman of the Central German Cancer Center. This demonstrates that they are making an important contribution to cancer medicine.

According to the report, the Central German Cancer Center is the first of the 14 institutions to operate across state lines. The center collaborates with more than 140 partners, including hospitals, physicians, and rehabilitation facilities in the region. According to the information provided, more than 24,000 cancer patients are counseled annually at the locations in Jena and Leipzig.
