100 barbecue teams in masquerade costume compete for the title. Even those who don't get a place in the competition can join in the barbecue.

Minus temperatures meet a fiery competition: 100 teams compete against each other at the winter barbecue - in costume. The program starts at 1.30 pm at the Leipzig market. Despite the icy cold, the organizers are expecting a good atmosphere: "Winter barbecues are really tough," said Ines Zekert from the Krostitzer Brewery. One team will even be taking part for the 16th time.

Only the barbecue skills have to be convincing

In three rounds, the participants have to show what they can do. It starts with bratwurst, followed by round two: steak. From the charcoal to the grill to the barbecue, everything will be provided, explained the organizer. Finally, a self-created vegetarian dish should convince the jury. The teams of two are allowed to bring their own ingredients.

A total of 24 jury members will judge the food in six teams. The prizes are "Best Barbecue Team", "Best Alternative Barbecue" and "Best Performance". The highest award is the "Golden Grill".

Teams have already been chosen

The places for the competition were allocated on December 12 at 12:12 noon. Within a few minutes, the fastest 100 teams were able to secure a place. Those who didn't get one can still attend the festival: Entry is free. In the city, cargo bikes will also be handing out barbecued food to passers-by. This can then be used directly at the self-barbecue station.
