Demand in the East German construction industry rose in the first half of 2026. From January through June, construction companies recorded a total order volume of 12 billion euros, according to the East German Construction Industry Association in Potsdam. Compared to the first half of 2025, this represents an increase of about 11 percent and real growth of 6.0 percent. “At the end of the first half of 2026, construction companies overall saw a more stable trend in demand than in the previous year, which was primarily due to the first implementation measures funded by the special fund,” said CEO Robert Momberg. Consequently, momentum was particularly strong in public construction. There, the order volume climbed by 22 percent in nominal terms to 4.6 billion euros. Residential construction also posted strong gains, rising by 19.5 percent to just under 1.9 billion euros. However, a broad recovery is being held back by the currently sluggish commercial construction sector (+1 percent to 5.5 billion euros), said Momberg. In terms of revenue, however, non-residential construction recorded the strongest growth with a nominal increase of 6.5 percent to 4.9 billion euros. Residential construction posted the weakest performance, with revenue of 1.7 billion euros—a nominal decline of 2.7 percent compared to the previous year. The trend varied by region. In Berlin, new orders rose significantly, while revenue declined noticeably. Brandenburg reported falling new orders but a sharp rise in revenue. In Saxony, new orders stagnated, while revenue was below that of the first half of 2025. Saxony-Anhalt recorded an increase in orders while revenue declined. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). At the same time, revenue declined slightly. Overall, the industry generated 10.2 billion euros. While this was nominally 3.8 percent more than a year earlier, it represented a 1.3 percent decline in real terms.More Public Contracts Thanks to Special Fund
