Gas Discount in Poland Is Expiring

Gasoline and diesel prices in Poland will rise significantly starting Tuesday. With the end of the Polish school vacation on August 31, the current fuel price package will also expire. 

The maximum price set for Monday was the equivalent of about 1.54 euros per liter for regular gasoline, about 1.73 euros for premium gasoline, and about 1.70 euros for diesel, according to the Ministry of Energy. According to estimates by industry experts, prices for gasoline and diesel are expected to rise by the equivalent of 14 to 20 cents per liter once the fuel discount expires.

A reduced VAT rate of 8 percent has been in effect in Poland since August 17. In addition, the Ministry of Energy set a daily maximum retail price for fuel, which was determined based on average wholesale prices and the operating costs of the largest suppliers. With this fuel price package, the government in Warsaw sought to provide financial relief to citizens as they returned from vacation.
