Every second pea in Germany comes from Saxony. The organic cultivation of vegetables is also becoming increasingly important in the state.

Saxony is the largest producer of peas in Germany. This is according to statistics on vegetable cultivation published by the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. According to the statistics, 7,960 tons were harvested in the state last year, compared to 16,484 tons in Germany as a whole. Saxony accounts for 53 percent of Germany's pea cultivation area.

Most vegetables are grown outdoors

Vegetables are mainly grown outdoors in Saxony. In 2025, a total of 31,721 tons of vegetables were harvested on just under 2,700 hectares, according to the statistics office. Compared to the previous year, the area under cultivation increased by seven percent. At 1,302 hectares, the largest area of open field cultivation was in the district of Meißen.

Organic vegetable cultivation is growing
