Half-sided closure of railroad bridge in Bad Schandau

For further investigations, the railroad bridge on the B172 in Bad Schandau will be closed on one side next week. The work on the road surface and concrete is scheduled to last from Tuesday to Friday, according to the State Office for Road Construction and Transport. Samples of the tendons, grout and concrete will be taken.

In December, experts examined the bridge, which connects to the Elbe bridge, which has been closed for months, and crosses railroad tracks. It is one of 19 prestressed concrete structures from the 1970s that the Free State is subjecting to special inspections following the partial collapse of Dresden's Carola Bridge. There is a risk of so-called stress corrosion cracking in the Hennigsdorf prestressing steel used, which is considered to be the cause of the collapse in Dresden.

During the half-sided closure, a mobile traffic light system controls the traffic. Traffic from the direction of Krippen will be diverted to the Elbe bridge. The state office expects waiting times and tailbacks on the Elbe bridge.
