After the deployment of more than 1,000 police officers on Berlin's Super Soccer Saturday, the authorities have drawn an overall positive conclusion. For the first time, Hertha BSC and 1. FC Union played on the same day in quick succession. In addition, the Old Lady's match against SG Dynamo Dresden in the 2nd division is one of the so-called high-risk matches.
There were no serious riots or disturbances. According to the police, 30 arrests were made around the match at the Olympiastadion. The main reasons were physical assaults, resistance to law enforcement officers and assaults. No unusual incidents were reported from SC Freiburg's visit to Berlin-Köpenick.
Fighting prevented in the stands before kick-off
The security concept for the second division match had provided for the consistent separation of the two fan camps in and around the Olympic Stadium. In addition to the 11,000 tickets officially available for the guest blocks, several thousand Dresden supporters had also bought tickets - they were seated among the Hertha fans. A total of 70,914 spectators watched the game in the stadium.
With the exception of a threatening confrontation before kick-off, when several hundred fans from both camps tried to run towards each other on the upper ring, according to the police, there were no visible major critical incidents.
Criticism from the Fanhilfe: Restraints and provocations
Screening walls were erected on the stadium grounds. Water cannons were positioned at the entrance as well as police with dogs.
After the match, the fans of both teams were also escorted out of the stadium by different routes. "Everything was calm," said a police spokeswoman: "There were no more incidents after the game."
Fanhilfe Berlin, however, sharply criticized the operation in a lengthy statement. Among other things, it spoke of harassment and provocation by the police.
