Leipzig's handball players go into the Christmas break with a win. The Saxons are superior in almost every respect against the newly promoted team from Potsdam.

The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team have ended their negative run in the Bundesliga. After four defeats in a row, the team of coach Runar Sigtryggsson won 35:26 (17:13) at 1. VfL Potsdam. German international Franz Semper (seven goals) and Lukas Binder and Moritz Preuss (six apiece) were the team's best scorers and played a major part in the success of the team in twelfth place in the table.

In Potsdam's Arena am Luftschiffhafen, the Saxons set the pace from the outset and were able to exploit the numerous technical mistakes made by the newly promoted club. After a quarter of an hour, the visitors had already doubled the number of goals and led 10:5.

Red for Rogan

VfL then reduced the deficit to 10:9 (18'), but Leipzig got back into the game with its attacking defense, behind which goalkeeper Kristian Saeveraas once again made his mark. Despite Luka Rogan being shown a red card in the 27th minute, the score stood at 17:13 at the break.

In the second half, Potsdam's goalkeeper Martin Tomovski also became increasingly involved in the goalkeeping duel. Nevertheless, the lead never really came under threat. Robust in defense and powerful from the backcourt as well as on the wing and in the circle, SC DHfK once again carved out good chances and led 27:20 in the 49th minute.

The home side tried to introduce new ideas with an early third timeout, but Semper and Co. were not deterred and remained compact.
