All champions should be promoted. That is what the north-east regional leagues are demanding. There is a potentially groundbreaking meeting with the DFB leadership in Frankfurt.

The clubs of the Regionalliga Nordost have high hopes for their "promotion reform" initiative at the meeting with the head of the German Football Association. "We have clear expectations and would like DFB President Bernd Neuendorf to support our proposals and for us to come to a joint solution, even though we know it will be difficult," said the spokesman for the East Initiative, Tommy Haeder of Chemnitzer FC. The meeting will take place on Thursday in Frankfurt.

Out of 18 North-East regional leagues, 16 have adapted to the new initiative. Their goal: The champions should be promoted directly. This requires a reform of the current five-tier regional leagues. "We have already outlined our two possible models," said Haeder, without going into details. According to MDR, one model should be based on a four-track regional league, another should include the 3rd division.

By all means

According to Nordost president Hermann Winkler, the other regional associations are ready to talk. Haeder also emphasized that they would do everything in their power to achieve a reform: "We will emphasize that we will go to extremes to create equal opportunities so that every champion of the regional league can be promoted."

On 7 November, a solution negotiated as amicably as possible is to be decided at the DFB Bundesestag. A few years ago, an initiative from the east already failed once.
