RB Leipzig impressively defended second place in the Bundesliga with an offensive spectacle. Bayern's closest rivals won the top match against Eintracht Frankfurt 6:0 (2:0). Conrad Harder (5th minute) and Christoph Baumgartner (31st) gave Leipzig an early lead in front of 47,012 spectators in the Red Bull Arena. Yan Diomande (47./55./65.) increased the score with a treble. David Raum (62) also scored from the penalty spot.
This was the sixth home win in a row for Saxony, who remain unbeaten at home. Only Bayern and RB are still unbeaten at home. Eintracht, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat after six unbeaten league games. The previous week, the Hessians had already lost 3-0 to Atalanta Bergamo in the Champions League and only drew 1-1 with Wolfsburg. SGE therefore remain in seventh place in the Bundesliga table.
Starting XI debut for Eintracht's Batshuayi
The Belgian Michy Batshuayi made his starting XI debut after impressing as a substitute in the Eintracht attack against Wolfsburg. Following the absences of Jonathan Burkardt (muscle injury) and Ansgar Knauff (cold), Hugo Larsson and Can Uzun were also back in the matchday squad for the first time since their muscle injuries, with coach Dino Toppmöller rotating Nnamdi Collins and Mahmoud Dahoud into the starting eleven.
Ole Werner also made three changes compared to the cup. Kosta Nedeljkovic was preferred in the back four, Xaver Schlager started for Ezechiel Banzuzi, while Peter Gulacsi returned in goal.
First goal for "Danish Dynamite" Harder
After 28 seconds, Eintracht had their first chance. But RB goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi parried the harmless ball from Fares Chaibi from 15 meters. Danish dynamite" Conrad Harder did better at the other end (5th). The physically robust Dane headed Christoph Baumgartner's sensitive lob from a half-right position over Eintracht keeper Michael Zetterer at full stretch to take the lead and score his first goal in an RB shirt in his 15th game. Arthur Theate then made a razor-thin save from Harder after a room cross (15th) to prevent the 0:2.
Eintracht then stumbled over the equalizer. Batshuayi (20) received the pass directly five meters in front of goal, but the ball unfortunately went straight between his legs. Mahmoud Dahoud then smashed the ball straight onto the crossbar from 18 meters. RB countered and scored practically on the counter-attack thanks to Baumgartner (31), who only had to push a feed from Harder over the line. The Austrian was then on hand again, but his goal to make it 3:0 (39') was taken back by the VAR assistant referee.
Three-pack from "mask man" Diomande
After the changeover, RB went one better in terms of effectiveness. Antonio Nusa dribbled into the penalty area and was fouled. When there was no whistle, he immediately got up and passed the ball to "mask man" Diomande, who hammered the ball into the goal with full force from 13 meters in the 47th minute. Then the inside of the post came to Frankfurt's rescue after Nusa (52) shot the ball from a half-left position from the edge of the penalty area. Diomande made it more precise from the center position and scored from 16 meters to make it 4:0 (55').
Frankfurt were then only able to clear half-heartedly after a corner, with Larsson blocking Schlager's attempted shot with his arm. Raum (62) converted the subsequent penalty safely. Diomande completed his hat-trick three minutes later when he rounded Zetterer and slotted safely into the empty net to make it 6-0.
