The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) has sentenced the second division club 1. FC Magdeburg to a heavy fine in two cases. Due to the setting off of pyrotechnics at two away matches, the Elbe city team must pay a total of 164,550 euros, of which 54,850 euros can be used for "own safety or violence prevention measures", as the DFB announced.
The fine for the misconduct at Magdeburg's point match at promoted Arminia Bielefeld on September 12 amounted to 95,550 euros, and 65,000 euros for the DFB Cup match at SV Illertissen. The second division club has until February 18, 2026 to lodge an appeal.
Magdeburg face further penalties due to the serious riots during the derby against Dynamo Dresden on January 24, 2026. More than 70 police officers were injured in the riots following the 2:1 home defeat.
