The marathon, which links the two neighboring towns across the national border, has been running for 100 years. More than 500 athletes were registered.

Hundreds of people ran from Leipzig to Halle at the 100th anniversary edition of the Central German Marathon. According to the organizers, Cornelius Rossbach from Berlin was the first to cross the finish line at the market square in Halle after 2:35:07 hours. Jennifer Hönnicke won the women's race in 3:00:14 hours.

According to the entry list, more than 500 athletes had registered for the race. The starting signal was given at 9 a.m. at the Elsterflutbecken in Leipzig. The route led partly along the White Elster. In addition to the full 42 kilometers, the athletes could also compete in a half marathon, a relay race or over 10 kilometers.

The race between Leipzig and Halle was first held in 1925, according to the organizers. At that time, the first German Marathon Championships were held on the course.
