Second-division soccer club Hertha BSC is focusing on continuity in its management team. The contract extension with managing director Thomas Herrich is about to be finalized. "Basically, we have agreed in the executive committee that we will continue on the path of continuity, and that also means the path with Tom," said interim president Fabian Drescher in the podcast "Hertha BASE". There will be "one or two more talks" about this. "But continuity should be guaranteed. Then everything else in its own time."
Drescher will initially lead the club on an interim basis following the sudden death of Kay Bernstein until the regular election in the fall. "If I think about it now, I'm definitely not ruling out a candidacy," said the 41-year-old about his own future.
Drescher said that the Berlin way of focusing on financially responsible action, more humility and relying on the club's own talents, as still proclaimed by Bernstein, was also desired by the membership. "There has to be someone who will then continue to follow this path consistently so that the Berlin path really does lead to success at some point," he said. "I think it would be fatal if someone came in from outside and said: I'm going to overturn everything here. We have to redo everything."
