The reason for the volatile double home matchday for Hertha BSC and Union Berlin on Saturday are public holidays in several other federal states. "The scheduling of the 9th matchday of the Bundesliga and the 11th matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga had to take into account, among other things, the public holiday legislation in several federal states as well as the scheduling of the DFB Cup matches," the German Football League (DFL) announced on request.
The scheduling was therefore carried out in coordination with the police. The fact that both Berlin clubs are playing a home game on the same day is an exception.
No games possible in NRW
Friday is Reformation Day, but Saturday in particular is All Saints' Day, a public holiday in several states. No matches may be played on this day in North Rhine-Westphalia, for example. Second division team Hertha BSC will host Dynamo Dresden on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Olympiastadion. Two and a half hours later, Union will kick off against SC Freiburg.
Dynamo's opponents Hertha are likely to make things particularly difficult for the Berlin police. Up to 35,000 Dresden fans are expected to make the journey. The match is a high-risk game, as the fan camps are hostile to each other. The same applies to the fans of Union and Dynamo, which also makes the departure of the Saxons from the capital explosive.
