FC Erzgebirge Aue have achieved the hoped-for escape in the 3rd Football League. With a 2:0 (1:0) win against TSV 1860 Munich, the team from Saxony closed the gap to the lower midfield and took some of the pressure off embattled coach Jens Härtel. Marvin Stefaniak gave Auer the lead after 20 minutes. Eric Uhlmann (82) ensured the final score in front of 10,187 spectators.
Until Stefaniak's first goal of the season gave them the surprise lead, Munich were the better team. Kevin Volland scored in the 6th minute with a direct corner kick to make it 1-0, but the goal was disallowed due to an alleged obstruction of Aue keeper Martin Männel. Immediately before Aue took the lead, 1860 striker Florian Niederlechner hit the post.
New game after Aue take the lead
The 1:0 turned the game around completely. From then on, there was very little to see from the Lions, with the hosts dominating the game, playing pleasing soccer with well thought-out lateral movements and also having chances to increase the score.
After the break, however, it was almost all the visitors playing. Aue worked hard in defense and relied on occasional counterattacks. The home side were lucky when Marvin Rittmüller (51) hit the post again. There were no more big chances for Munich after that. Instead, Aue scored and could even have extended the lead. However, the outstanding Stefaniak (85) only hit the underside of the crossbar with a free-kick.
