FC Erzgebirge Aue, which was relegated from the third division, let a potential victory slip away against the self-proclaimed promotion favorite VSG Altglienicke. In the season opener of the Regionalliga Nordost, coach Khvicha Shubitidze’s team played to a 3-3 (2-2) draw.
Linus Queisser (17th minute) had put Aue ahead. Mohamed Sydney Sylla (32') and John Anthony Brooks (39') had briefly turned the game around for Altglienicke, before Tim Maciejewski (40') scored the equalizer for the hosts. Then, in front of 8,611 spectators, striker Marcel Bär (58th) put the Saxons back in the lead with a penalty kick. But even that wasn’t enough. Jonas Nietfeld (86th) scored the well-deserved equalizer for the visitors.
