The flu epidemic in Saxony continues to weaken. For the 10th calendar week (March 3 to 9), the responsible state research institute reported 2,841 reported influenza cases, a significant decrease (minus 31 percent) in the number of cases compared to the previous week. Just over half (51 percent) of the reported cases were caused by influenza B viruses, according to the Ministry of Health.
114 deaths so far due to flu epidemic in Saxony
"Infections are being registered in all age groups, with the disease burden currently being particularly high among younger schoolchildren and adults," it said. In the current flu season, 114 patients between the ages of 8 and 99 have died so far, the vast majority of them elderly people.
"The activity of acute respiratory illnesses (ARE) is now declining after several weeks at a high level. The events continue to be determined by a high circulation of influenza viruses," is the conclusion of the health authorities.
