Fewer and fewer respiratory infections are being reported in Saxony. Although viruses are still circulating, the authorities have declared the current flu season to be over.

Saxony's health authorities are registering fewer and fewer respiratory diseases. The current season "is over", according to the State Investigation Institute (LUA), which is now discontinuing its reporting. For the week after Easter, it reported a 68 percent drop in cases of influenza and a 52 percent drop in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections. In addition, only 15 coronavirus cases were reported.

In the 17th calendar week, 73 new cases of influenza were reported, affecting young and younger schoolchildren and adults in particular. Of the 140 RSV infections reported, it was still mainly young children who fell ill.

A total of 430 deaths

In the current flu season from the beginning of October last year to April 25, 44,428 cases of influenza were registered nationwide, as well as 15,369 coronavirus infections and 7,933 RSV infections, according to LUA statistics. A total of 430 people between the ages of 6 and 99 died, most of them from a SARS-CoV-2 infection (224), 192 from influenza and 14 from RSV - exclusively older adults.

The LUA spoke of a "very pronounced influenza wave" that began in 2025 and peaked in early to mid-February. While initially mainly influenza A infections were diagnosed, this was followed by an increasing number of influenza B infections. Other cold viruses are now dominating the situation, but RS viruses are also still circulating - they mainly affect young children.
