The new Lausitz-Carl Thiem Medical University in Cottbus and the Technical University of Dresden plan to collaborate more closely in the future. According to a statement from the Brandenburg Ministry of Science, the signing of a cooperation agreement is scheduled for next Wednesday. The goal is “structured cooperation in the areas of university operations.” The focus will be on “collaboration in research, academic programs and teaching, faculty development, and administration.” Joint research projects “within the framework of the Lausitz Health Model Region” are also to be undertaken. There is even talk of a “dual degree program.” At the University of Cottbus, the first 38 students recently began their medical studies. Once fully expanded, the plan calls for approximately 200 first-semester student slots annually, 80 professorships, and 1,300 additional positions for research and teaching.
