The Helios Clinic in Schkeuditz (district of North Saxony) is to be closed. "Operations will be discontinued for the time being by May 31 at the latest. The inpatient areas are to be deregistered from care by Wednesday," said a Helios spokesperson. The current inpatients will be discharged or transferred to the Leipzig site.
In response to an inquiry, the Group stated that services and competencies should be concentrated at the Leipzig clinics in future as part of a process of focusing. "This is the best option for the hospital structure in the region and is already in line with the objectives of the planned hospital reform." The focus is on the centralization of complex medical services.
According to the "Leipziger Volkszeitung", a total of around 200 people are employed in Schkeuditz. There are said to be takeover offers so that employees could move to other locations. According to the report, the number of inpatients fell from 8,200 in 2015 to 3,500 last year.
