Avian influenza has now also reached the district of Central Saxony. Subtype H5 was detected in a dead swan discovered in Hartmannsdorf at the end of last year, the district office announced. This is the result of tests carried out by the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut. This is the first case in the district since April 2021.
As this is a single wild bird, there are no further official requirements. However, poultry farmers are called upon to take increased safety measures. Among other things, poultry must be kept in such a way that no contact with wild birds is possible. If an animal is found dead, shows symptoms or lays fewer eggs, the veterinary office must be informed.
Small animal markets without poultry
The veterinary office has decided that small animal markets may only take place without poultry. In addition, participants at poultry exhibitions will be limited to owners from Central Saxony.
