Saxony is once again awarding 40 places to study medicine at the University of Pécs in Hungary. The model project is a sustainable investment in the future of medical care, especially in rural regions, according to the Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs. The model project "Studying in Europe - Future in Saxony" was launched in 2013.
The Kassenärztliche Vereinigung (KV) Sachsen (Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Saxony) finances half of the study places with the Saxon health insurance funds, while the Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs pays the tuition fees for the other 20 places. The participants complete their medical studies in Hungary on a German-language course. They are then trained in Saxony to become specialists in general medicine. In return, the medical students undertake to work as a doctor in rural Saxony for at least five years after completing their specialist training.
