Passengers in the Central German Transport Association (MDV) will have to pay more for tickets from August 1. Prices will increase by an average of five to six percent, MDV announced.
The transport association cited the sharp rise in daily operating costs and higher wages as the reason for the increase. In addition, the low-cost Deutschlandticket is leading to rising passenger numbers, but not to higher revenues for transport providers.
Single tickets will become more expensive
In future, a journey in Leipzig will cost 3.60 euros instead of the previous 3.50 euros. In Halle, the price will rise from 3.00 euros to 3.40 euros. In future, two-zone tickets will cost 4.80 euros instead of 4.50 euros, and for three zones the price will rise from 6.20 euros to 6.60 euros. For a four-hour ticket valid for the entire network, you will have to pay 14.20 euros instead of the previous 13.40 euros.
In addition, there are other ticket prices depending on the location. MDV will provide information about all changes on its website.
The MDV network area includes the cities of Halle and Leipzig as well as the districts of Leipzig, North Saxony, the Saale district, the Burgenland district and the Altenburger Land district. It also includes local rail transport in the districts of Wittenberg and Anhalt-Bitterfeld and in the city of Dessau-Roßlau.
