Christian O'Sullivan has spent a decade at SC Magdeburg. Now the captain's contract is coming to an end. How the Norwegian has shaped the club.

After ten years, captain Christian O'Sullivan is leaving the German handball champions SC Magdeburg. The Norwegian's contract expires at the end of the season and he will be given his farewell on the evening after the last home game of the season against VfL Gummersbach, as the club announced. It remains to be seen where the 34-year-old will go.

"Ten years ago, Christian O'Sullivan and SCM embarked on a journey together - we as a hungry team and he as a young, ambitious and talented player - that we could hardly have imagined back then where it would take us. Today, he is one of the most successful players ever at SCM," said coach Bennet Wiegert.

Dreams fulfilled

O'Sullivan has won everything with Magdeburg at club level. Four German championships, the Champions League twice, the DHB Cup once, the European League and the Club World Cup three times. The backcourt player moved to Magdeburg from Kristianstad in Sweden in the summer of 2016.

"I've been able to travel all over the world in my career and fulfill my dreams - the fact that I was able to do that fills me with great gratitude. Now the time has come for me to leave," said O'Sullivan. "I am proud of what we have built here together. It's been a long journey that has been very successful in the end."
