Leipzig Zoo Opens the “Tierra del Fuego” Adventure World

An underwater tunnel over 100 meters long runs through a pool containing more than five million liters of water: Leipzig Zoo has opened its new coastal and marine exhibit, “Feuerland.” The tunnel is the centerpiece of the exhibit. Visitors can observe seals and Humboldt penguins underwater there, according to the zoo.

The area also features a wave pool and beach areas for the animals. Educational stations, digital exhibits, and films provide information about South America’s coastal landscape and species conservation projects. The focus is on the endangered Humboldt penguins.

“Tierra del Fuego” is part of the “Zoo of the Future” master plan, which is scheduled to be largely completed by 2028.
