Leipzig is investing EUR 4.1 million in new emergency vehicles to improve fire and rescue service operations, including swap body and water tender vehicles.

Leipzig's fire and rescue services will receive eleven new emergency vehicles over the next two years.

For a total of around 4.1 million euros, the fire department's vehicle fleet will be expanded to include two swap body vehicles, three tanker fire engines, an emergency fire fighting vehicle, three logistics equipment vehicles and a hazardous goods armoured vehicle.

"Suitable operational technology is necessary for an efficient fire department," states Leipzig's Mayor of Public Order Heiko Rosenthal. "The emergency vehicles to be procured will help us to guarantee the strategic goals and sovereign tasks in accordance with the 4th update of the fire protection requirements plan and rescue service area plan. Global developments and the latest environmental standards are taken into account."

Because of the technical regulations and the infrastructural conditions within the city of Leipzig, the emergency vehicles can currently only be equipped with combustion engines based on fossil fuels.
