A 250-kilogram world war bomb was discovered at the construction site of Dresden's Carola Bridge. It will be defused on site on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Around 17,000 people will have to leave their homes, workplaces or hotels beforehand.
Discovery at the Carola Bridge construction site
On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, a British 250-kilogram bomb from the Second World War was found on the Neustadt side of the Carola Bridge. According to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service, the bomb will be defused on site on Wednesday.
"For this purpose, the area within a radius of around 1,000 meters around the site where the bomb was found must be evacuated," announced the state capital of Dresden. Around 17,000 people are affected, including tourists staying in hotels in the evacuation area.
Evacuation area and offers of assistance

An emergency shelter will be open at Messe Dresden from 6 am. Dresden's public transport company will be operating shuttle buses, the stops of which can also be found online. People with limited mobility should contact the citizens' hotline to receive individual assistance.
Effects on daycare centers
Several daycare centers in the evacuation area will remain closed:

Up-to-date information on the bomb disposal and the lifting of the evacuation zone will be published at www.dresden.de/bombe. In addition, the state capital of Dresden, the Dresden fire department and the Dresden police department will provide information via their websites and social media channels.
The citizens' hotline will be available until 9 pm on Tuesday and from 6 am on Wednesday.
